PETITION: Repeal Arizona's anti-immigration law

Share

Dear [[First_Name]],

I'm sure you've already heard the news: Arizona's recently enacted SB 1070 is a draconian anti-immigration law that sets the clock back on a generation of civil rights gains, and openly invites harassment and discrimination against Latinos and others who may appear "foreign" -- regardless of their citizenship or lawful immigration status.

We cannot allow this injustice to stand. That's why I'm calling on you, right now, to sign our petition at DennisHerrera.org and join me in calling on Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to take immediate steps to repeal this divisive and dangerous law.

This law will lead to racial profiling of people of color and those with limited English proficiency. It criminalizes the failure to carry immigration documents at all times by lawful foreign residents, and requires police officers to question those they suspect may be in the United States illegally.

We must all take a stand against this unjust measure, which President Obama said threatens "to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe."

Until SB 1070 is repealed or invalidated by the courts, we must keep the pressure on Arizona's leaders. Please take a moment right now to sign our petition to Gov. Brewer.

Thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely,

Dennis Herrera
San Francisco City Attorney
